WINNIPEG, MB, July 29, 2010 - MTS is proud to announce its role as the official communications solutions provider to the 2010 Islendingadagurinn (Icelandic Festival of Manitoba) taking place from July 30 to August 2 in Gimli, Manitoba. Islendingadagurinn is the second oldest ethnic festival in North America, dating back to 1890. The festival is a celebration of Icelandic history and culture in Manitoba, home to the largest concentration of people of Icelandic ancestry outside of Iceland.

As the official communications solutions provider to 2010 Islendingadagurinn, MTS will provide wireless devices and services to the event organizing committee and volunteers. In recognition of its sponsorship, the Islendingadagurinn Viking Village will be named after MTS.

"MTS is pleased to sponsor 2010 Islendingadagurinn, a celebration of community and diversity in our province," said Kelvin Shepherd, President, MTS. "Islendingadagurinn is Manitoba's oldest ethnic festival; it is an important piece of our history. As Manitoba's hometown communications provider, MTS is happy to support this festival and dozens of other festivals in the province."

The MTS Viking Village, stationed on Harbour Park Hill in downtown Gimli, is home to living history demonstrations from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. during each day of the festival. Viking warfare tactics and demonstrations will also take place in the Village, a centre of activity during the festival. Other events taking place in Gimli during Islendingadagurinn include live concerts, parades, craft and art shows, a cultural and heritage pavilion and a midway.

"For more than 100 years Islendingadagurinn has relied on volunteers and community support. We are proud to count MTS among the list of local businesses that have supported us over the years," said Kathi Thorarinson-Neal, President, Islendingadagurinn. "MTS has provided us with the products and services we need for our organizing committee to communicate during the festival. Our activities and events are spread out across Gimli. Remaining connected is essential to the successful coordination of this event."
